Shortlist for the actual commute
- Compare the address to your usual office, school, transport and local services. Check connectivity at the times you normally travel.
- Ask for the floor, furnishing inventory, water/electricity setup, parking, security arrangements, internet readiness and any building rules.
- Confirm whether a shared accommodation or PG provides the services, privacy and written terms you need.
Understand all rental costs
- Review monthly rent, maintenance, security deposit, advance payments, utility charges, lock-in terms, notice period and any brokerage separately.
- Check whether the quoted rent includes furniture, parking or club facilities and who bears repair/replacement costs.
- Request a written inventory and timestamped photographs of the unit at handover.
Verify the agreement and payments
- Verify owner/authorised agent identity and premises information before making transfers. Ask about permissible occupants and any registration requirements applicable to the agreement.
- Use written receipts or bank transfer records. Keep a copy of the signed agreement and emergency contact information.
- Never share OTPs or use an unverified payment QR simply because a listing seems urgent.
